It was my desire to begin this new year with the greatest of intentions that will guide me through the next 12 months. The intention to be more fully present with my children, to get outside and appreciate this beautiful world we live in, breathing in the crisp, fresh air, feeling the warm sun on our faces. Have more adventures, play more, enjoy the moment. always.
With that in mind, we headed down to the river for an early afternoon walk. We wobbled along the river rocks to find the perfect spot for skipping rocks, filling our pockets full of so many of those rocks. We talked about our hopes and plans for this new year, the kids both in agreement that we need to take many hikes and field trips (completely agreed!). As we walked and talked, taking in the fresh smell of the river, we felt a great appreciation for living so close to such a peaceful place.
I loved watching the kids take in the surroundings (it's so different in the winter). They would walk along, stopping to pick up a rock or stick, truly being in the present moment. Many people were out walking. Much to my surprise, as each person passed by, my sweet little guy would say in his cheeriest voice "Happy New Year", catching a few people by surprise but always getting a response and a smile back. I think he made a few people quite happy at that moment.
I'm thankful for this moment with my family and for the opportunities for many more memories such as this.
We are ending our winter break and I find myself feeling much sadder than I thought I would. It's been a very nice, peaceful break with the kids and Lars. As the kids get older, I'm so aware of how quickly the time passes and find that sometimes it's almost hard to think about. They need to slow down, this mama needs way more time to cherish these years when they they are still young and want to spend time with me! Alas, time won't slow down but I can make the most of it by savoring the moments more and bringing a greater awareness to my days with these precious little people. This is one of my many hopes for the new year, inviting the abundance of presence in our days.
Since we've been making memories around here, I haven't had a chance to talk about my One Little Word and I really want to. I hope to have it posted by Friday.
Many wishes for a year of peace and happiness to you.
